All councelors are expected to ask each student the above five questions, and help them to write down their own thoughts. Most of them will write in Chinese first, and then translate their answers into English, please check and correct their English in short sentences.
Once they can read their answers fluently, they will be recorded and the audio file will be uploaded to the internet as an archive of childhood development. We may or may not put together a video with their photos and voices, then share it on Facebook and Youtube.
The questions are:
你的人生目标是什么？What are your life goals? 为什么这么设定？Why them?
我们为什么要不断学习？Why do we need to keep learning all our lives?
一个人的综合素质由哪些方面构成？What consist of a person’s competence? 哪个方面最重要？Which is the most important?
五十年后，我们这个世界会变成什么样？What would the world look like in 50 years?
大约在1840年鸦片战争之前50年，英国大幅度降低了茶的进口关税，这是为了对付中国茶的走私，也为茶走入寻常百姓家做了一些铺垫，又过了几十年，就在鸦片战争之前几年（1834年），东印度公司对茶的贸易垄断被终结了monopoly was ended，这使得茶开始进入英国百姓家庭，消费大幅度上升。当时的政府希望国民多喝茶，少喝酒 It was promoted as an alternative to alcohol。
第一次鸦片战争
鸦片战争之所以打起来，主要是因为中国清朝出口到欧洲的茶赚了英国人很多白银，但是请政府不许进口英国的工业产品，这种贸易不平衡growing trade imbalance 让英国白银大量流失，逼迫东印度公司开始在孟加拉Bengal种植鸦片 grow opium，然后走私进入中国 smuggle into China illegally，换回白银。国民大量抽鸦片上瘾 this caused massive addition problem，政府开始禁烟 the Chinese government began seizing opium imports，毁掉鸦片 and destroy them，然后导致中英之间发生了战争 sparked conflicts between British and China，所以鸦片战争实际上是一场由中国的茶叶引起的战争。
在第二次鸦片战争之后，富裕的英国人开始追求更高品质的中国茶，就是每年头道茶 the first crop of the year，为什么每年第一轮采摘茶是品质最好的呢？因为茶经过了冬天的积累，第一轮冒出来的嫩叶是营养和糖分最充足的。为了满足市场对这种新的品茶需求，英国商人开始组织快船竞赛，看哪家公司的快船能够穿过太平洋和印度洋，第一个现身在伦敦港口。奖品很丰富，每一吨茶叶奖励十先令 ten shillings per ton，使得各家公司之间竞争激烈。

下面这艘叫做 cutty sark 的快船就是在这个背景下建造的。
这是如今陈列在格林威治海事博物馆里的那艘东印度公司的贸易快船 the Cutty Sark。
为了赢得竞赛，这艘船的船桅杆非常高extremely high masts，各种装备和设计都很先进，同时作为一艘贸易船，它也不小，船上装满茶叶的话，按照如今的价值换算，那些茶叶可以价值六百万英镑！我进去参观过，当时真是有些意外那个时候的英国人就能够建造那么大的船。只是后来苏伊士运河开通了，茶叶从中国出口到英国的航程被大幅度缩短，这艘船的速度优势变得没那么重要。后来蒸汽船出现，这种帆船就被淘汰了。
