THE UGLY DUCKLING READ IN CHINESE AND ENGLISH

Hello everyone,

地点:in the stream of garden 花园里的小溪中。

《THE UGLY DUCKLING》

  • Then they threw more bread and cake into the water 接着他们朝水里扔更多的面包和蛋糕, and said 说道,
  • “The new one 这只新来的 is the most beautiful of all 是他们中间最好看的;
  • he is so young 他这么年轻 and pretty 而且美丽.”
  • And the old swans 老天鹅们 bowed their heads before him 都在他前面弯下头来.
  • Then he felt quite ashamed
  • and hid his head under his wing 把头埋在翅膀下;
  • for he did not know 因为他不知道 what to do 怎么办,
  • he was so happy 他很开心, and yet not at all proud 但是一点都不自豪.
  • He had been persecuted 他被迫害过 and despised 被鄙视过 for his ugliness 就因为他的丑陋,
  • and now he heard them say 可是现在他听他们说 he was the most beautiful of all the birds 他是所有鸟儿中最漂亮的.
  • Even the elder-tree 即使是那些小树 bent down its bows into the water before him 也在他前面弯下他的树巅,伸到水面,
  • and the sun shone 阳光灿烂 warm and bright 温暖而明亮.
  • Then he rustled his feathers
  • curved his slender neck
  • and cried joyfully from the depths of his heart
  • “I never dreamed of such happiness as this while I was an ugly duckling 当我还是一只丑小鸭的时候,我做梦都想不到,象今天这样的幸福,.”

THE END

比如:我很 proud of you.
  • 【a new one]】比如:我的铅笔断了,请给我 a new one。

这是因为,有些器物、生物、习俗、穿着,只在一种语言里有专用名词,比如说,我们中国人吃的东西,我们的一些节日和风俗习惯只在中国存在,翻译成外语的时候是不可能百分百表述好的;

THE UGLY DUCKLING READ IN CHINESE AND ENGLISH

地点:a great garden 一个大花园。

《THE UGLY DUCKLING》

Please repeat after me.

  • They bore him onwards
  • until he found himself in a large garden before he well knew how it had happened
  • The apple-trees 这里的苹果树 were in full blossom 开满了花,
  • and the fragrant elders 芬芳的树枝 bent their long green branches 弯下长长的绿色枝条 down to the stream 垂到了小溪里,
  • which wound round a smooth lawn
  • Everything looked beautiful 花园里的一切看上去都好美, in the freshness of early spring 一切都带着一种早春季节的清新.
  • From a thicket close by 从附近的一个灌木丛里 came three beautiful white swans 来了三只美丽的白天鹅,
  • rustling their feathers 清理着他们的羽毛, and swimming lightly 安静地游动着 over the smooth water 在平静的水面上.
  • The duckling remembered the lovely birds 小鸭子记得这些可爱的鸟儿, and felt more strangely unhappy than ever 感觉心里有一种从没有过的,奇怪的难过.
  • “I will fly to those royal birds 我要飞到那些高贵的鸟儿身边去,” he exclaimed 他自言自语,
  • “and they will kill me 他们肯定会杀死我, because I am so ugly 因为我长得这么丑, and dare to approach them 还敢靠近他们;
  • but 但是it does not matter 我不管了: better be killed by them 我宁愿被他们杀死 than pecked by the ducks 也不愿意被鸭子们啄, beaten by the hens 被母鸡打, pushed about by the maiden who feeds the poultry 被那个喂鸡的女仆推,
  • or starved with hunger in the winter
  • Then he flew to the water 然后他就飞到了水中, and swam towards the beautiful swans 朝着美丽的天鹅游了过去.
  • The moment they espied the stranger 天鹅们一窥见这只陌生的鸟, they rushed to meet him 就朝他冲了过来 with outstretched wings 急促地扑打着翅膀.
  • “Kill me 好吧,杀了我得了,” said the poor bird 可怜的鸟儿说道;
  • and he bent his head down 他把头低下 to the surface of the water 贴着水面, and awaited death 等待死亡.
  • But 但是what did he see 你瞧他看见了什么? in the clear stream below 在身下清澈的溪流中?
  • His own image 他看见了自己的倒影;
  • no longer a dark gray bird 他不再是一只深灰色的鸟, ugly 丑陋 and disagreeable to look at 看不下去,
  • but a graceful and beautiful swan
  • To be born in a duck’s nest 你看,出生于一个鸭窝里, in a farmyard 一个农家院子, is of no consequence to a bird 对一只鸟其实并没有什么影响,
  • if it is hatched from a swan’s egg
  • He now felt glad at having suffered sorrow and trouble
  • because it enabled him 因为这些悲伤困苦让他能够 to enjoy so much better all the pleasure and happiness around him 更充分地享受所有身边的欢愉和幸福; for the great swans 因为这些天鹅们 swam round the new-comer 都围着他这个新来者游动着, and stroked his neck with their beaks 用他们的喙触摸着他的脖子, as a welcome 表示欢迎.
  • Into the garden presently came some little children 不一会儿花园里来了一些小孩子, and threw bread and cake into the water 他们朝水里扔面包和蛋糕.
  • “See 你们看,” cried the youngest 最小的那个孩子大喊,
  • “there is a new one 这里来了一个新成员;”
  • and the rest were delighted 其他孩子也都非常兴奋, and ran to their father and mother 纷纷朝着他们的父亲和母亲跑去, dancing 跳着 and clapping their hands 拍着手, and shouting joyously 高兴地大呼小叫,
  • “There is another swan come 花园里来了另外一只天鹅; a new one has arrived 一只新天鹅来了.”

Question 1:

Question 2:
my opinion is:

Question from previous lesson:

THE UGLY DUCKLING READ IN CHINESE AND ENGLISH

今天的音频资料里,讲的是关于[the ugly duck 丑小鸭]、[the tom cat 公猫]、[the hen 母鸡]的故事。

地点:in the old cottage 在一栋破烂的老房子里。

《THE UGLY DUCKLING》

  • A woman 一个妇人, a tom cat 一只公猫, and a hen 还有一只母鸡 lived in this cottage 住在这个小房子里.
  • The tom cat 那只公猫, whom the mistress called 那个妇人叫他, “My little son 我的小儿子,” 的 was a great favorite 是最受欢迎的;
  • he could raise his back 他可以弓起背, and purr 他还可以在喉咙里发出呼噜噜的声音, and could even 他甚至可以 throw out sparks from his fur 从皮毛中蹦出闪光来 if it were stroked the wrong way 如果有人以错误的方式抚摸他的话.
  • The hen 那只母鸡 had very short legs 有一双很短的腿,
  • so she was called 所以它被叫做 “Chickie short legs 短腿鸡.”
  • She laid good eggs
  • and her mistress loved her 她的女主人也爱她 as if she had been her own child 就好象母鸡是自己的孩子.
  • In the morning 早上, the strange visitor 这个奇怪的来访者 was discovered 被发现了, and the tom cat began to purr 公猫开始紧张地呼噜噜, and the hen to cluck 母鸡也惊慌地咯咯叫唤.
  • “What is that noise about 吵吵闹闹地啥事啊?” said the old woman 老妇人说,
  • looking round the room
  • but her sight was not very good 但她的视力不是很好;
  • therefore 因此, when she saw the duckling 当她看见小鸭的时候 she thought 她以为 it must be a fat duck 它应该是一只肥鸭, that had strayed from home 从家里跑出来迷路了.
  • “Oh what a prize 天上掉馅饼了!” she exclaimed 她高兴极了,
  • “I hope 我希望 it is not a drake 这不是一只公鸭, for then I shall have some duck’s eggs 那样的话我就会有鸭蛋吃了.
  • I must wait and see 我等等看.”
  • So the duckling 所以这只小鸭子 was allowed to remain on trial 被允许在破房子里留下来观察 for three weeks 待了三个礼拜, but there were no eggs 但是三周后,(小鸭子)没有下蛋.
  • Now 现在 the tom cat was the master of the house 公猫成了房子里的男主人, and the hen was mistress 母鸡成了女主人,
  • and they always said 他们总是说,
  • “We and the world 我们和这个世界,”
  • for they believed 因为他们相信 themselves to be half the world 他们自己就是半个世界,
  • and the better half too
  • The duckling thought 小鸭子想 that others might hold a different opinion on the subject 其他动物肯定不会同意这个看法,
  • but the hen would not listen to such doubts
  • “Can you lay eggs 你会下蛋吗?” she asked 她问道.

“No 不会.”
“Then have the goodness to hold your tongue 那就麻烦你管住你的舌头.”
“Can you raise your back 你会弓着背, or purr 或者呼噜噜, or throw out sparks 或者,从皮毛里蹦出闪光吗?” said the tom cat 公猫问.
“No 不会.”

  • “Then 那么 you have no right to express an opinion when sensible people are speaking 那么当聪明人说话的时候,你无权发表意见.”
  • So the duckling 所以小鸭子 sat in a corner feeling very low spirited 只好坐在角落里,郁闷死了。
  • till the sunshine 直到阳光 and the fresh air 和新鲜空气 came into the room through the open door 从打开的门那里进到房子里,
  • and then 然后 he began to feel such a great longing for a swim on the water 他开始觉得特别想去水里游泳, that he could not help 他忍不住 telling the hen 就(把想法)告诉了母鸡. “
  • “What an absurd idea 这主意太荒唐了,” said the hen 母鸡说. “You have nothing else to do 你吃饱了撑着是吧? therefore you have foolish fancies 怎么会有这些愚蠢的幻想?
  • If you could purr 要是你也可以从喉咙里发出呼噜噜的声音 or lay eggs 或者会下蛋, they would pass away 这些幻想就会消失的.”
  • “But 但是,it is so delightful to swim about on the water 在水里游来游去,多令人开心啊,” said the duckling 小鸭子说,
  • “and so refreshing to feel it close over your head while you dive down to the bottom 你知道吗?

Question 1:
And my opinion is:

Question 2:
my opinion is:

Question from previous lesson:
the two wild geese 被猎杀了,为什么 the ugly duckling 没有?

今天,我们要讲讲关于[ the ugly duckling 丑小鸭]、[two wild geese 两只野鹅]的故事。

时间:a storm night 一个风暴之夜,地点:moor and a broken cottage 湖和一栋破房子。

《THE UGLY DUCKLING》

带着问题听故事,第一个问题:the two wild geese 被猎杀了,为什么 the ugly duckling 没有?

  • Poor thing
  • he had no thoughts of marriage 他还从来没有想过结婚这事;
  • all he wanted was 他想要的仅仅只是 permission to lie among the rushes 可以躺在野草中,
  • and drink some of the water on the moor
  • After he had been on the moor for two days
  • there came two wild geese
  • for they had not been out of the egg long 因为他们出壳还没多久,
  • and were very saucy
  • said one of them to the duckling
  • “you are so ugly 你长得这么丑,
  • that we like you very well 挺招我们喜欢的.
  • Will you go with us 你愿不愿意跟我们一起走,
  • and become a bird of passage
  • Not far from here 距离这里不是很远的地方 is another moor 是另外一个湖,
  • in which there are some pretty wild geese
  • It is a chance for you to get a wife 这可是个讨老婆的好机会;
  • you may be lucky , ugly as you are
  • “Pop, pop,啪啪” sounded in the air 空中突然传来两声枪响,
  • and the two wild geese fell dead
  • among the rushes 掉在湖边草丛里,
  • and the water was tinged with blood
  • “Pop, pop,啪啪” echoed far and wide in the distance 远方传来更多的枪声,
  • and whole flocks of wild geese 整群野鹅 rose up from the rushes 都从草丛中飞起来.
  • The sound continued from every direction 枪声从每一个方向传来,一直没停, for the sportsmen surrounded the moor 打猎的人群把整个湖都包围了,
  • and some were even seated on branches of trees
  • The blue smoke from the guns 从他们的枪筒里冒出的蓝烟 rose like clouds 象云一样升起 over the dark trees 漂浮在黑乎乎的树顶上方,
  • and as it floated away across the water
  • a number of sporting dogs 很多猎狗 bounded in among the rushes 又冲进了草丛,
  • which bent beneath them wherever they went
  • How they terrified the poor duckling
  • He turned away his head 他弯着头 to hide it under his wing 藏在自己的翅膀下,
  • and at the same moment
  • a large terrible dog 一只模样凶恶的大狗 passed quite near him 从他旁边擦身而过.
  • His jaws were open
  • his tongue hung from his mouth
  • and his eyes glared fearfully
  • He thrust his nose 狗鼻子在地上嗅来嗅去 close to the duckling 就快嗅到小鸭了,
  • showing his sharp teeth
  • and then 然后,
  • “splash, splash,哗哗” he went into the water 他忽然又下了水 without touching him (竟然)没有碰到他,
  • “Oh ,” sighed the duckling
  • “how thankful I am 谢天谢地 for being so ugly 我长得这么丑;
  • even a dog will not bite me 连狗都懒得咬我.”

  • And so he lay quite still
  • while the shot rattled through the rushes听着枪响在草丛里噗噗作响,
  • and gun after gun 一枪又一枪 was fired over him 子弹纷纷从他头上飞过.
  • It was late in the day before all became quiet
  • but even then 但即使那时候 the poor young thing 这个可怜的小东西 did not dare to move 还是不敢动一丝一毫.
  • He waited quietly 他安静地等着 for several hours 等了几个小时,
  • and then 然后,
  • after looking carefully around him 在小心翼翼地检查了周围之后, hastened away from the moor as fast as he could 飞快地从湖面逃走了
  • He ran over field 他跑过田野 and meadow 和草地 till a storm arose 直到一场风暴降临,
  • and he could hardly struggle against it 风很大,它几乎站立不住.
  • Towards evening
  • he reached 他来到了 a poor little cottage 一个穷人家的小房子旁边 that seemed ready to fall 看上去马上要垮的样子,
  • and only remained standing
  • because it could not decide on which side to fall first
  • The storm continued so violent
  • that the duckling could go no farther 小鸭子再也没法往前走了;
  • he sat down by the cottage
  • and then 然后
  • he noticed that 他注意到 the door was not quite closed 这破房子的门没有关严 in consequence of one of the hinges 因为有一只合页 having given way 坏掉了.
  • There was therefore a narrow opening near the bottom 因此靠近地面有一个窄窄的开口 large enough for him 大得足够让他 to slip through溜进去,
  • which he did very quietly 他也的确悄悄地这样做了, and got a shelter 找到了一个庇护所 for the night 度过一晚.

《THE UGLY DUCKLING》《

Question 1:
the two wild geese 被猎杀了,为什么 the ugly duckling 没有?.
And my opinion is:

Question 2:

Question from previous lesson:

Question 1:
And the answer is:

my opinion is:

Question from previous lesson:
为什么 the mother duck 对那只老母鸭说 your grace?

  • as she can be recognized both by man and beast
  • Come now 跟我来, don’t turn your toes 别缩手缩脚的,
  • spreads his feet wide apart
  • just like his father and mother
  • in this way 就这样;

《THE UGLY DUCKLING》《

Question 1:
为什么 the mother duck 对那只老母鸭说 your grace?.
And my answer is:

Question 2:
my answer is:
